SEARCH KEYWORD -- DATA ENGINEERING

Run code with multiple files in the same main package in GoLang

To run a GoLang program, there needs to be a main() function defined. In some cases when developing some demo program which has multiple files and just wanna put them in the same main package and this folder is not in GOPATH, how to run the program? Let's say we have following folder structure where the main() function is defined in main.go. If you just run below command, it would fail to start to run the program and gives some error if some struct is defined in other files and being used. PS D...

If Multitasking Is Impossible, Why Are Some People So Good at It?

"Multitasking means screwing up several things at once," somebody once said, wrongly. In fact, we don't do many things at once, ever. We do many things in quick succession. And some of us are very good at it.Nagy-Bagoly Arpad/ShutterstockEverybody multitasks. We have conversations while driving. We answer email while browsing the Web. It's hard to imagine living any other way. What would be the alternative, removing the seats from your car to ensure you only drive alone? Block every website not ...

How do Silicon Valley companies recruit

There are a lot of friends asking me about the basic flow of how Silicon Valley companies recruit engineers. As a candidate, I tried Facebook, Google, Yahoo, Oracle, and I received offer from all these companies. As an interviewer, I have interviewed no less than 300 people and I know about the process of recruitment. I write this article with the hope of inspiring people who want to go to Silicon Valley or who are preparing for interviews or who are in the design of the recruiting process...

  The future smells like JavaScript

Of course I am only repeating what others are preaching about the recent rise of JavaScript. But I think the movement is significant and can't be overstated. And recent developments are really even making it more and more interesting. Nobody can deny hat JavaScript is the de facto programming language of Html5. Every other language trying to bolt itself onto Html5 looks like pure friction so far. And Html5 is looking upon a prospering future. Today we are used to some established JavaScri...

  SameSite attribute in cookie

Starting from Chrome 51, a new attribute SameSite has been introduced for browser cookie. This attribute is to prevent CSRF attack. Cookie is normally used to store data exchanged between client and server. It frequently stores user login information. If a malicious website can forge a HTTP request with the valid third party website cookie, it may be called a CSRF attack. For example, if a user logins to a bank website your-bank.com, the bank server responds a cookie: Set-Cookie:id=a3fWa; L...

Different types of keystore in Java -- Overview

Keystore is a storage facility to store cryptographic keys and certificates. They are most frequently used in SSL communications to prove the identity of servers and clients. A keystore can be a file or a hardware device. Three are three kinds of entries can be stored in a keystore depending on the types of keystores. The three types of entries are: PrivateKey : This is a type of keys which are used in asymmetric cryptography. It is usually protected with password because of its sensitivity. It ...

What is pjax and why we should use it?

What is pjax? Now many websites such as Facebook, Twitter support one browsing style which is when you click one link on their sites, the page will not be redirected, instead only the page contents are updated and URL on address bar is changed. This kind of user experience is much better compared to load the whole page with a blink. There is one important component in the above browsing experience, these websites' AJAX refresh support browser history, when refreshing the page, the address on the...

Deep Dive into Spin Locks in Golang

In concurrent programming, a Mutex is a commonly used synchronization mechanism to protect critical resources and prevent data races. However, in certain specific scenarios, especially when the lock-holding time is short and the number of threads is limited, a more lightweight lock known as a Spin Lock can provide higher performance. What is a Spin Lock A Spin Lock is a form of busy-wait lock. When a thread attempts to acquire a lock held by another thread, it continuously checks the lock's stat...

Sass Style Guide: A Sass Tutorial on How to Write Better CSS Code

Writing consistent and readable CSS that will scale well is a challenging process. Especially when the style sheets are getting larger, more complex, and harder to maintain. One of the tools available to developers to write better CSS are preprocessors. A preprocessor is a program that takes one type of data and converts it to another type of data, and in our case CSS preprocessors are preprocessing languages which are compiled to CSS. There are many CSS preprocessors that front-end develop...

Ruby is beautiful (but I’m moving to Python)

The Ruby language is beautiful. And I think it deserves to break free from the Web. I think the future of Ruby is firmly stuck in Web development, though, so I’m going to invest in a new language for data analysis, at least for now. This is a look at the fantastic language I came to from Java and a look at a possible candidate. (Update: I’ve since written a followup.)Java to RubySix years ago, I added Ruby to my technical arsenal. I learned C++ and Java in high school, and I p...
