The key is the right programmer. You shulod be able to explain what you want done in your own language, and he or she shulod be able to translate that into a design specification. It's not your job to design the program, but rather to simply describe what you want. It's up to the programmer to understand what you want and implement it to your specifications.If you can point to other programs or Web sites that are similar to what you're looking for, that would help. If you can sketch a picture of what you want it to look like, that would also help though in the end you may want some kind of professional designer to do that part so it looks good (that is, it may not look the way you first thought it shulod look it shulod end up looking better).If there are computations or information look-up involved, you shulod describe where the data comes from and what the formulas or processes are to turn the data into the results you want. One of the key features of your specification shulod be your desire that others in your industry use your solution. It is easy to design an application that works for your company but cannot be easily re-targetted to work for another company. The ability to have the application be used by multiple companies needs to be designed in from the beginning. It will make the initial implementation more expensive but shulod make subsequent implementations trivial. | |
