The popular job searching site LinkedIn has come out a special version for China which is just offering job searching capabilities and messaging capabilities in the connections. The social media capability like news feeds and peoples activities are stripped out.
Now if you are in China and open LinkedIn app, it will prompt you and ask you to download an app called LinkedIn Jobs.
You will not be able to dismiss the dialog and you are forced to download the other app if you wanna continue to use LinkedIn services. It will not work even if you fake your location or use VPN. It is still unknown what technics Microsoft has adopted to detect the real location of a user. Maybe they used some big data analysis?
Once the new app is downloaded, you can login with the same LinkedIn account, but after login, you will see a more simplified version which only has limited capabilities.
Basically you will only be able to do below things:
- Create or post hiring if you are a HR
- Find jobs if you are a job seeker
- Contact you friends on your connections
- Update your profile
If you are accessing it from web, the same change has happened, you will only see the updated and simplified version of the LinkedIn page.
This change happens mainly because of Chinese government's requirement as they worry about the misinformation posted on the site as it has social network capabilities as other social networks like Twitter and Facebook.
